Talon (Talon #1) by Julie Kagawa – Book Review

By Julie Kagawa

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars

First of all let me say, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK! Now that that is out of the way, this is going to be a series with the next installment coming out April 28, 2015, (according to Goodreads.com). I will literally be counting down the days for the next one to see how the story unfolds.

Julie Kagawa created a modern world that includes dragons in a way that didn’t seem fantastical or ridiculous. This book was slow to the start, but once the plot line started advancing it really turned into quite an interesting read. The plot line is unique and fresh, but still has all of the elements of a YA romance or fantasy novel that we all know and love.

The main theme behind this story is freedom. The romance is a subplot and even the fact that there are dragons hidden amongst humans in the real world is more a background concept. The main character, Ember, is a dragon who gets to turn into a human and be free from the confines of the facility that raised her for a period of time. Her love interest/enemy is Garrett and he is adorable. I just loved the connection between the two of them.

I really felt connected to most of the characters and they were really believable throughout the entire book.

I really cannot say enough positive things about this book. It was so good.
