Review Policy/ Rating Guide

My Review Policy:

I will accept ARCs. I live in the US, specifically Connecticut. I like to provide that information before anyone contacts me, just in case that affects anything. My address is available upon email.

If I do happen to receive any ARCs for review, I’m going to give a completely honest review. If I write a negative review, it is not to be rude or mean, it is just my personal opinion on the ARC. The same thing goes for if I happen to love the book.

As of March 2015, the genres that I will accept include:

  • YA
  • Paranormal
  • Fantasy
  • Fanfiction (which I have been asked to read before, so that is why I am including it)
  • Romance

The ones I will not accept (at the moment) are:

  • Historical Fiction (but I could be persuaded by a good plot line)
  • Non-fiction
  • Erotica
  • Religious

I do not care whether it is a physical copy or an E-book, but occasionally it is nice to receive a physical copy. Email available upon request.

Rating Guide:

I generally give my books a rating out of 5 stars.

5 Stars:

I absolutely loved this book and everyone needs to read it or at least give it a try.

4 Stars:

I still loved it, but there were some flaws and things that didn’t work for me in regard to the story, characters, plot, etc.

3 Stars:

It was pretty good: not terrible, not terrific.

2 Stars:

It wasn’t good at all and would probably never recommend it to anyone. I most likely wasted my time on this.

1 Star:

Don’t even bother reading. I most likely didn’t even finish it myself.

    Hi there,

I’m currently writing YA, and would love to have you review Little White Lies – which is currently on Amazon and other platforms.

I could gift you an email copy if that would work for you. I live in Canada, so a print-copy might be rather expensive to send.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

    Thanks so much,

    Hi there!

I work for award-winning Young Adult author Michael Phillip Cash. I wanted to know if you would be interested in reading and reviewing his latest book, Witches Protection Program.

    About the book:
Wes Rockville, a disgraced law enforcement agent, is given one last chance to prove himself and save his career when he’s reassigned to a 232 year old secret government organization. The Witches Protection Program. His first assignment: uncover a billion-dollar Cosmetics company’s diabolical plan of using witchcraft for global domination, while protecting its heiress Morgan Pendragon from her aunt’s evil deeds. Reluctantly paired with veteran witch protector, Alastair Verne, Wes must learn to believe in both witches and himself. Filled with adventure, suspense and a rousing good time, Michael Phillip Cash creates a tongue-in-cheek alternate reality where witches cast spells and wreak havoc in modern day New York City.

Let me know if I can send you the book! I can send it via snail mail, Kindle, or .PDF

Thank you. I look forward to hearing back from you.

    Hello!

I thought you might be interested in reading my fantasy novel, STARSCAPE.

    Synopsis:
A legend that tells of a star… more beautiful than any other… even before the sun… thousands of years ago… wiser than the wisest of men… a song of unearthly beauty…

It was no more than idle talk in the marketplace that began it.

When Pluriel is accidentally reminded of an old prophecy, he and three companions begin the long journey to Nevarra Swamp. Their mission? A nearly hopeless attempt to recapture the Sword of the Star, stolen centuries ago by Jalavak. This Sword is the only weapon which can defeat the Dark Lord, for he was wounded by it in the war of the Valintari at the dawn of time. But what can Pluriel, Ringard, Galdore and Tristal do alone? For if the prophecy is to be fulfilled, the Star itself must fall from the sky – and how could such a thing come to pass?

I’m Canadian, so I would prefer to email you a copy (I can do epub or PDF) rather than mailing a physical book.

I look forward to hearing from you!

I run a small press and have a recently released fantasy novel available for review.

Rise of the Storm is the first book in the five-part Desolate Empire series

Description: When a renegade priest prophesies an imminent apocalypse, a conflict is sparked which will tip a continent into war.

Prince Kendryk is young, handsome and popular, his kingdom prosperous and peaceful. But in the face of the prophesied apocalypse, he must choose between conscience and power. If he chooses the side of faith, he must defy the ruthless Empress Teodora, ruler of a vast empire, imperiling kingdom and family— but if he chooses the side of power, he risks plunging his world into a darkness worse than war.

The coming conflict will touch the lives of thousands, among them…

Prince Kendryk’s adored wife, Gwynneth, the proud daughter of a king, whose ambition may come at great cost…

Braeden, a violent mercenary, commander of a legendary winged army, who will find himself in the service of an employer he must defy to protect those he holds dear…

Some of them have few reviews because they’d been with publishers for many years and I never pushed for reviews or their old reviews wouldn’t transfer to Amazon, B&N, Goodreads, etc. Now I own all of them and have self-published them in the last eight months. I’m an Indie now. I write horror/thrillers/suspense/romantic time travel and murder mysteries. I’d love it if you’d consent to pick a few of my many books (I can send either epubs, mobi, pdf or free Audible audio codes for any of my 22 novels if you email me with their titles. I found your website via a link on kboards, and as a fanatical tea drinker (my favorite is peach white tea, with Jasmine green and Pu-Er as close seconds), I was interested in joining a tea party (non-political, that is). In any case, I am writing to see if you would be interested in receiving a free review copy of my multicultural epic fantasy, The Dragon Scale Lute (there’s tea references!).

Had Kaiya lived when the power of music could still summon typhoons and rout armies, perhaps Cathay’s imperial court would see the awkward, gangly princess as more than a singing fool. When an insurrection threatens the realm, she will have the chance to prove them wrong.

If you are interested in giving it a try over a cup of iced tea (it is summer, after all), I can send you a .mobi, .epub, or .pdf file.

It’s a fast-paced story about teenage rebels in post-apocalypse London, and it’s told through the eyes of six different characters with very different outlooks and motivations. Hi,
I found you on the Book Review Directory, and am hoping you’ll be interested in reviewing my YA fantasy, Lizzie in the Land Beyond:

Hijacked by witches, kidnapped by a dwarf and enraptured by river sprites — will Lizzie ever manage to go home? And if she can, will she want to?
Lizzie is an exhausted honor student and an enthusiastic amateur folk singer. She wakes one day in a strange and terrifying new land. The women who revive her tell her she can never go home because they scooped her up when she was about to die.
Lizzie must somehow navigate this fantastic land (where there are giants and mermaids and goblins and a really infuriating man whose best friend is a wild cat), try to determine how she got fished out of her life in the first place, and find a way, if any, to get home again.
But if she does find a way — will she really want to go?
“A beautiful mixture of sorcery, mythical beasts, and aliens, Lizzie in the Land Beyond is a fantastic read from beginning to end. I love the characters, the voice of Lizzie and her bumbling youthful arrogance, the larger than life Adeline, and curmudgeonly Sculdar, and the strong and silent Osric.” — Cynthia Varady on Goodreads

Let me know if you’d like a copy.
    Thanks!

    Hi,

I got your website off the Book Review Directory, and would love to submit my book, Avalon Dreams, for a review. It’s the 1st in a series, but can be read as a standalone as well. It’s fantasy with a high dose of romance 🙂

    BLURB:
“It was impossible they had met before – of that she was certain. Yet his hold on her was undisputable, an irrational pull to the utmost recesses of her soul.”

Vivienne du Lac has everything she could wish for – a normal, peaceful life, a good job, cushy nest egg, and a semi-social nightlife. The only problem? She’s clueless to being the reincarnation of the Lady of the Lake, mythical sorceress from King Arthur’s time, and Merlin’s apprentice.

Sebastien Dubois is the guy you wouldn’t take home to mom and dad. He’s the one you jump off on a motorcycle with, to ride into the sunset. The sexual chemistry between them is sizzling from the start – but there’s more to the tall, dark and handsome stranger. When a magical past tumbles into her orderly reality, he is Vivienne’s only hope at survival.

Caught between darkness and light, a battle she has no intention to fight – let alone the knowledge to win – Vivienne quickly finds out not even closest allies can be trusted.

Can she look within and access powers from long past, become the enchantress Merlin meant her to be… Or will she lose it all over love, for Sebastien’s salvation? This is a battle between good and evil you don’t want to miss.

I can email you whichever version you’d like (I have epub, pdf, mobi, etc.). I live in Canada so I prefer ebook, but if you’d really like a physical copy, I can try to swing it 🙂 There’s also an excerpt on my website if you’re not sure if it’s your cup of tea.

    Dear Mad Tea Party,
I am writing because I see that you are currently open to reviewing fantasy novels. Would you be interested in reviewing the novel Dream Stalker Talented: Book 1?
It is 236 pages long and self-published. It is the first of 3 books that are currently available. Book 4s release to be announced. Here’s a synopsis:
All Emma wanted was to sell her enchanted teas in peace; instead, she’s caught up in the chase for a killer who’s stalking the streets of London. He’s targeting half-bloods, people with limited magical ability. People just like Emma.
The police are baffled by the long string of deaths, but they’re not willing to put in the legwork to make an arrest. After all, magic users can take care of themselves, right? Except, those with real power don’t give a damn about half-bloods. So, when Emma wakes from a strange dream that nearly gets her killed in the waking world, she knows she has to deal with it herself.
With only her boggart shop-assistant and the two strange men who have offered to help, can she thwart the killer and make the city safe again?
If interested, I’d be happy to send you a copy of the book in the format of your choice: mobi, Epub, or PDF.
Thank you so much for your time!

Hey 🙂 Our school did a play on Alice and Wonderland a few years back, but it was nothing like the real thing! A shame, really. Anyways, here’s my book:

    Enden
    David Kummer
    Released January 1, 2017
    237 pages

**They have grown strong in the shadows, the kingdom of Oldon. The land is void of hope and of strength against them. The human kingdoms grow corrupt everyday, so that the lines between good and evil are slurred.

One young man from a small village in the valley could change all of that. He fights with the passion of a warrior and the luck of a magician. And when the barbarians force him out of his home, the journey begins.

Trained by a knight, shadowed with secrets, and against the kingdom he once called home, Jonathan is an outcast, a rebel. But more than anything, he is a leader.

Enden is a world filled with wars, famine, sieges, torture, and death. But the greatest battle of all is to survive. Only one thing is certain. Something is rising, in the distance near the edge of the world where forgotten secrets brew. Something has risen. And it is coming.

    It is coming**

It is a unique fantasy book, focusing on the wars, friendship, sacrifice, and brotherhood of a world torn apart by corruption and evil. There is very limited magic, a few created creatures, but besides that it is much like the Middle Ages in Europe.

If you want to give it a try, email me back at davidkummer7@gmail.com and I will send you a free pdf, mobi, or doc/docx. Pick your format, and enjoy a wild ride like no other.
